Each short study is anchored in a specific text of Scripture.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lesson 1 looks at the adolescent years of Jesus, talking about how the culture in which Jesus lived recognized puberty as an\u00a0important phase of physical and spiritual development. The goal of this lesson is\u00a0<strong>to help your child see these changes not as something bizarre, but as something good<\/strong>. Even the Son of God Himself went through them.<\/li>\n<li>Lesson 2 looks at the process of change in the human body throughout all of life.\u00a0<strong>Puberty is just one of several significant phases<\/strong>\u00a0men and women go through as they age. Physical changes are a normal part of life and nothing to fear.<\/li>\n<li>Lesson 3 addresses\u00a0<strong>the mental and emotional changes<\/strong>\u00a0of puberty, as well as the internal catalyst for change in our bodies:\u00a0<strong>hormones<\/strong>. The goal of this lesson is to teach children there are natural internal mechanisms in the body that guide the process of puberty\u2014created by a\u00a0loving, wise, and sovereign God.<\/li>\n<li>Lesson 4 looks at the overall\u00a0<strong>physical changes common to both boys and girls<\/strong>, including basic changes like height, body hair, body odor, acne, etc. This is all part of the natural transition to adulthood.<\/li>\n<li>Lesson 5 deals with the\u00a0<strong>changes that take place in girls<\/strong>\u00a0during puberty, such as fat deposits, breast development, and menstruation. These changes are a natural part of what it means to be female.<\/li>\n<li>Lesson 6 is about\u00a0<strong>changes that take place in boys<\/strong>\u00a0during puberty, such as muscular growth, facial hair, voice changes, testicular growth, and ejaculation. These changes are a natural part of what it means to be male.<\/li>\n<li>Lesson 7 will delve into\u00a0<strong>physical attraction<\/strong>. The Bible describes physical attraction as both very good and very powerful. Our\u00a0kids\u00a0need to understand both its goodness and power if they\u00a0are going to steward their\u00a0sexual development well during puberty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each lesson has an opening discussion topic, a Scripture reading, an explanation of the passage, questions to ask your children, and a prayer. The book\u00a0also contains simple line drawings of male and female anatomy.<\/p>\n<h2>What ages of children would benefit from this study?<\/h2>\n<p><em>Changes<\/em>\u00a0was written for parents to read with children ages\u00a0<strong>8 to 12\u00a0years old<\/strong>.\u00a0The study supplies children with a <strong>Bible-based<\/strong> understanding of puberty in a language they can understand.<\/p>\n<p>This is only a guideline, of course\u20148 to 12 is a broad range.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When is the best time to talk about puberty?<\/strong>\u00a0In brief,\u00a0<em>it is a good time to talk about puberty when your child can make good use of the information<\/em>. For many kids, this means talking about puberty some time\u00a0before or right as overt signs of puberty are first visible in their own bodies,\u00a0<em>or when signs of it are visible in the lives of their peers<\/em>.
