This series of studies covers basic theological and biological concepts that children ages 6 to 10 can understand. Each study is anchored in a specific text of Scripture.
- Lesson 1 deals with the differences between men and women, giving children a simple understanding of their own bodies and the differences between male and female sexual organs.
- Lesson 2 discusses God’s command for the human race to multiply, giving children a basic understanding of sexual intercourse and how babies are conceived.
- Lesson 3 addresses the development of human life in the womb, giving children a picture of the wonder of how babies grow and are born.
- Lesson 4 deals with the intimacy that is created through sex, giving children an understanding of the goodness of sex in marriage and how it creates a strong bond between a man and a woman.
- Lesson 5 discusses the sin of adultery, giving children a biblical understanding of why it is wrong.
- Lesson 6 addresses the difficult subject of rape and sexual abuse, reminding children of the importance of talking to their parents about anyone who touches them in an inappropriate manner.
- Lesson 7 deals with the importance of honoring God with one’s body because God has bought us with a price.
Each lesson has an opening discussion topic, a Scripture reading, an explanation of the passage, questions to ask your children, and a prayer. Many lessons are also contain line drawings of male and female anatomy, egg and sperm, and images of how a baby develops in the womb.
What ages of children would benefit from this study?
The Talk was written for parents to read with children ages 6 to 10 years old. The study supplies elementary-age children with foundational truths about sexuality at a level they can understand.
This is only a guideline, of course. Are there 5-year-olds who can have an in-depth conversation with parents about sex? Yes. Should every child go through this study at 6 or 7 years old? No. Could a child of 11 or 12 who has never been taught this information benefit from this study. Yes.

Straight out of the Word! Not watered down. Full of wisdom in the first part on how to deal with the awkardness we felt … And might still feel as parents! I wish my parents got hold of this book. If you don’t teach your children society will! It’s biblical. Practical and to be used as a family study. Open and honest. Easy to understand.

This book was purchased for me (a mom) to talk to four sons. The lessons are simple, direct and clear. There is no “humor” but just clear wisdom for the parents. The pictures are well done and help with the process. The script gives the parent the words needed. This is a wonderful start to our dialogue about intimacy in marriage, where it should be.

I recommend this book to all of my friends! I have never been shy about talking with my boys about sex at a very young age. I wasn’t sure if “The Talk” would be helpful (or just repetition). I found the book beyond helpful. There were things that I missed (because I never thought to tell my boys). I even learned alot as I worked through the lessons. I love having the why and scripture behind what I’ve been teaching my boys. And having a script really helps me organize and focus our conversations.

I have a very innocent 10 year old daughter who is about to head into a middle school health class. I used the first chapter today to talk to her in preparation to this class. I had warned her we would be talking about some things regarding health and sex before that class started. When I told her I would be talking to her today she started getting very nervous. She admitted to me that she didn’t want to go to the health class and didn’t want to learn any of this stuff. We sat down at home and went through the first lesson together. It was amazing how quickly it drew her in and was so easy for her to understand. The way this is written made it so any nervousness I had going in disappeared completely as I followed the script. At the end I told her that we had more lessons to come and she gave me a hug and told me she looked forward to it. I would say that is a success! So, on a personal note, thank you for making this so much easier.
The book itself is very nicely designed and well illustrated for children. I appreciated how blunt it was but more than anything how well it draws in the Biblical truths of being loved and created by God and how all of this, our bodies, our sexuality, reflects him and should be used to honor him. I give this my complete recommendation for any parents looking for a solid, well designed, and biblical way to approaching “The Talk”.
