As I sit here eating a piece (all right, more like a piece and a half) of gluten-free pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting, I realize that it would just be cruel of me not to share this delight of a recipe that I recently made up with the great wide world. Looking for gluten-free recipes and resources? This Everything Gluten Free page is a library of everything gluten free we’ve worked on. Often times I don't write down ingredients and amounts in my experimental kitchen cooking, but since I've started blogging, I have been trying to remember to write things down and keep better track just in case I ...Read More

Modern Parables: The Shrewd Manager (Review)
The Modern Parables series continues to be one of the best curriculums I've seen. Our Sunday School class has been engaging and rich. So far, I am very impressed with the level of discussion these films provoke. These last two weeks I've been playing The Shrewd Manager film and application video. The film is based on Christ's parable found in Luke 16:1-9. Jasper Crooks is a dishonest man through and through, but he's also creative and calculating. As manager of a large tenant farm in the South, Jasper is responsible for keeping the books, but when the landowner discovers he's been "misappropriating resources" (i.e. ...Read More
10 Free Latin Resources to Keep Learning Fun
Our Latin studies have recently been hijacked! First, Dylan spiked a high fever, and then when that was done he broke out in hives and blew up like a balloon (an event that warranted a trip the the emergency room). With all of that excitement certain subjects just fell to the wayside. Just as things were beginning to settle down, and we were getting our school groove on, Dylan and Elliot, my two mischievous 1-year-old twinsies, figured out how to open the DVD player. Those little stinkers had our Latin DVD all scratched up before I caught them. We just received our replacement DVD in the mail yesterday and ...Read More
Creamy Parmesan Dressing Recipe
For several months I've been making my own salad dressing. I prefer to make my own so we can avoid industrial oils, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and preservatives. Making salad dressing is so cheap and easy, and you are only limited by your creativity! This creamy parmesan dressing is sure to impress. We all know we need to eat our veggies, but it's just easier and more delicious when you can drizzle a healthy, flavorful dressing over your salad! Salads make a quick, easy, nutritious lunch, and it's even easier to get your daily vegetable intake if you have a jar of this dressing handy in the fridge. Be sure to also ...Read More
Modern Parables: Samaritan (Review)
As I said in my last post, I started using the Modern Parables series for my Sunday School class. I continue to be impressed with these videos. These last two weeks I presented Samaritan, both the parable film and the application video. This film is based on the famous parable of the Good Samaritan found in Luke 10. Samaritan is set in the modern context of a big city. The film opens with an old man laying in an alleyway, heavily beaten. He crawls his way to the street and rests against the side of a building, obviously traumatized. Two men have the opportunity to help: a deacon (who also happens to be a doctor) and ...Read More

3 Reasons We’re Not Giving Our Kids Christmas Gifts
It's that time of year! Yes, it's only October, but Christmas decorations and paraphanelia are showing up at many stores. I even saw a few strings of Christmas lights on some trees the other day. Truth be told, I'm not really ready to start thinking about Christmas yet, but I feel I must. You see, after last Christmas my husband and I determined to make some changes. One decision we made was that this year there would be no gifts. No gifts, you gasp?! Well, no gift exchanging will be done among our immediate family. We aren't going to cut off gift exchanges with the grandparents or other family members. Let me ...Read More
